HMD, the company known for taking over Nokia’s mobile business and later expanding into its own smartphones and tablets, is now said to be working on its first laptop. A new leak suggests the brand is preparing a Chromebook, marking its entry into a completely new product category. According to X user @smashx_60, HMD is developing a device called the HMD (Chrome)Book CS-1 Flip, which may simply launch as HMD Book CS-1 Flip. The “Flip” name suggests the laptop will come with a 360-degree hinge, letting users fold it into tablet mode when needed. This would put it in line with existing convertible Chromebooks from brands like Asus and Lenovo. Also Read: Apple may turn to Samsung or Intel for future iPhone chips; Here's why
The move is notable because, while HMD has expanded into Android tablets and accessories in recent years, it has never released its own laptop. Nokia-branded laptops have appeared in the past through licensing deals – such as the PureBook models – but those products were not developed by HMD. This time, the company seems to be entering the PC space under its own branding. Also Read: ASUS Zenbook S14, DUO, A14 launched with AI-focused chips: Check price and specs here
At the moment, the full hardware details are still under wraps. The leak mentions that HMD may use an Intel processor for the CS-1 Flip. Most affordable Chromebooks usually ship with ARM-based chips like MediaTek’s Kompanio series, so going with Intel could place this model slightly higher in the lineup. Still, nothing about the final configuration is confirmed yet.
We also don’t know the display size, RAM or storage options, or battery specs. Pricing remains a mystery too.
If the leak turns out to be accurate, HMD will be entering a competitive space already led by brands like Acer, Asus, Lenovo, HP, and Samsung.
