Apple’s new iPhone Air has quickly become the talk of the town, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman seems just as impressed as the rest of the tech community. Following Apple’s September 9 ‘Awe Dropping’ event, Altman took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his excitement, calling it the “first new iPhone upgrade I have really wanted in awhile” and adding that it “looks very cool.” news Also Read: Apple iPad Pro Launched In India With New M5 Chip, Ultra Retina XDR Display: Price, Specs

While Altman did not name the model initially, he later confirmed that he was referring to the iPhone Air. At just 5.6mm thick and weighing 165g, it’s Apple’s slimmest iPhone yet – a design shift that appears to have caught the AI leader’s attention. news Also Read: Apple Launches 14-inch MacBook Pro With M5 Chip And Up To 24-Hour Battery Life: Check Price And Availability

Interestingly, Altman’s iPhone Air praise wasn’t the only highlight of his online exchange. When a follower suggested that Apple should replace Siri with ChatGPT, the OpenAI chief didn’t dismiss the idea. Instead, he replied that it “sounds like a great idea” and that he was supportive of it. news Also Read: OpenAI Confirms Adult-Only ChatGPT With Custom Personalities And Erotic Conversations

The iPhone Air may be thin and light, but it doesn’t compromise too much on power. It comes with a 6.5-inch 120Hz ProMotion display and runs on the A19 Pro chip borrowed from the iPhone 17 Pro, though with one less GPU core. Apple says the phone still manages “all-day battery life,” and it also gets support from a dedicated iPhone Air MagSafe Battery pack.

On the camera front, the iPhone Air carries an 18MP front camera with Centre Stage support for group selfies, along with a single 48MP fusion rear camera. Apple’s design trade-offs for thinness also mean the device has just one speaker and ships globally with eSIM-only support. The starting price is set at Rs 1,19,900 in India and $999 in the US.

Apple, meanwhile, continues to face criticism over its AI efforts. Despite introducing Apple Intelligence last year, progress has been slower than rivals. With Siri already leaning on large language models for advanced queries, the idea of ChatGPT integration might not be as far-fetched as it sounds.
