Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in just a few weeks from now. Many leaks have already painted a clear picture of what to expect from the upcoming devices. A new MacRumors report now suggests big camera upgrades for the iPhone 17 Pro, including 8x optical zoom lens and a dedicated professional camera app. Also Read: 5 Best iPhone 17 Alternatives To Consider If You Didn't Like It
An anonymous source (via MacRumors) claims to know about a commercial for the device, which has been reportedly filmed by a production company that also has Apple listed as one of its clients. Also Read: Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Might Not Get The Camera Boost Fans Expected
The source further claims that the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a redesigned telephoto camera sensor with up to 8x optical zoom support. Meanwhile, the current iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 5x optical zoom. This big camera upgrade would allow users to capture clearer and more detailed shots from a greater distance.
The camera sensor is also said to be offering continuous zoom, i.e., it will be able to seamlessly alternate between focal lengths, something we usually see in high-end DSLR cameras.
The source also hints at Apple developing a standalone pro camera app for those who want to have more control. The app would be a rival to top third-party apps like Halide and Filmic Pro by offering users the advanced tools they need for photography as well as videography. It’s still unclear if the app will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro or available to older models too.
Apple seems to be targeting content creators more directly with these changes. The leak also hints at a major update to the Final Cut Camera app if a new app isn’t launched.
The leak also mentions a second Camera Control button that Apple is likely to add on the top edge of the phone.
The report also claims a new copper-like finish for the iPhone 17 Pro and an Apple logo centred at the back for a fresh look.
