SearchGPT launched: OpenAI has taken up the momentous task of rivalling Google Search. Yes, the same platform that you have been using since the dawn of the internet era in order to look for anything and everything on the web. In order to do that it has launched a new product dubbed as SearchGPT. Unlike Google Search, SearchGPT is not an independent platform yet. Instead, it’s a set of capabilities that work together in order to let users find relevant information on screen faster.
“We’re testing SearchGPT, a prototype of new search features designed to combine the strength of our AI models with information from the web to give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources,” OpenAI wrote in a blog post.
“We believe that by enhancing the conversational capabilities of our models with real-time information from the web, finding what you’re looking for can be faster and easier,” the company added.

According to OpenAI, here are all the things SearchGPT can do:
— SearchGPT can quickly and directly respond to users’ questions with up-to-date information from the web while giving them clear links to relevant sources.
— Users will be able to ask follow-up questions, like they would in a conversation with a person, with the shared context building with each query.
— It shows responses with clear, in-line, named attribution and links so users know where information is coming from and can quickly engage with even more results in a sidebar with source links.
As far as availability is concerned, OpenAI says that the SearchGPT that the company is rolling out is a temporary prototype and that it is available to a small group of users and publishers only. OpenAI plans to use this prototype to fine tune the platform before releasing the final version to a wider audience.
Also, the company has confirmed that it plans to integrate the best of these features directly into ChatGPT in the future.
