Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 launch: Qualcomm hosted a special event in New Delhi today wherein it launched the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 system-on-chip (SoC). This new chipset sits between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips and it brings all the artificial intelligence-based features that we have seen in Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets in the past.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 comes with the suite of Qualcomm’s top technological suites, which includes Snapdragon Sound, Snapdragon Elite Gaming, Snapdragon Smart, Snapdragon Sight, Snapdragon Connect and Snapdragon Secure. Essentially, these technologies mark the areas where the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 focuses on.
For instance, Snapdragon Smart brings generative AI-based features to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3-powered devices. Qualcomm says that this chip supports 10 billion parameters for on-device generative AI. It also supports multi-modal gen-AI models and over 30 Large Language Models (or LLMs) such as Llama and Gemini. It also supports gen-AI powered virtual assistant and image generation tools.
Snapdragon Sight, on the other hand, brings the Qualcomm Spectra 18-bit Triple Cognitive ISP, AI-powered features such as Photo Expansion, and an always-sensing camera for ultra-fast face unlock and mobile payments. Similarly, Snapdragon Elite Gaming brings features such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Snapdragon Shadow Denoiser and Qualcomm Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 to the supported devices.
On the audio front, Snapdragon Sound brings Qulcomm Aqstic Speaker Max Technology for reduced distortion and Qualcomm aptX audio technology to the devices.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is powered by Qualcomm Kryo CPU and Qualcomm Adreno GPU. It supports on-device display of up to 4K at 60Hz along with 10-bit colour depth, HDR10, HDR10+, HDR vivid, and Dolby Vision. For audio, the chip supports Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec, Qualcomm Aqstic smart speaker amplifier along with spatial audio with head tracking feature.
In terms of camera, this chip supports 4K HDR video capture and 64 MP photo capture feature. It also supports AI-based face detection, Google Ultra HDR photo capture and Snapdragon Low Light Vision (LLV).
For connectivity, this chip supports Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System, Qualcomm FastConnect 7800, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, Bluetooth LE Audio, t GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC. It also supports UFS 4.0 storage, up to 24GB of RAM and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 Technology.
Poco F6 that will arrive in India later this month will be the first smartphone in India to get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset.
