Google hosted the Google Cloud Next 2024 event today. At the event, the company announced a new AI-powered app called Google Vids. This new app is essentially an AI-based video creation tool that will sit alongside Docs, Sheets and Slides in Google’s portfolio and it will enable users to create videos from scratch.
But there’s a catch. Unlike other AI-based video creation tools, Google’s video creation app, Google Vids, will not only used AI-generated images and video for creating a video but it will also use images and video captured by the user in creating a video.
Talking about the Google Vids app, Google Workspace’s Vice President and General Manager, Aparna Pappu, said that this app will generate a storyboard that users can easily edit. Users add also stock videos, images and background music while making changes to the storyboard. Additionally, users can also add their own voice over in addition to using the pre-set voice overs in the app to create their video. “It’s your video, writing, production and editing assistant all in one,” Pappu wrote in the blog post.
“Vids includes a simple, easy-to-use interface and the ability to collaborate and share projects securely from your browser,” she added.
Using Google Vids is simple. Here is a step-by-step guide for the same:
Step 1: Once the app is rolled out to public, users can access it through the Google Apps button on the top right corner of any Google apps, Google Search or Google. It will be available right alongside Google Docs and Google Sheets.
Step 2: From there, enter the prompt describing the video that you want to create. It’s quite similar to the prompts that you use in other video or image generation tools.
Step 3: After that, Google Vids will create a storyboard which users will be able to edit or delete. Users will also be able to add their own items to the storyboard at this point.
Step 4: Click on the Next button. Doing so, users will land on a page wherein they will be asked to select one of the pre-set templates for their video.
Step 5: Select the video style and then click on the Next button.
Step 6: In the next step, users will have to write the script for each item in the storyboard.
Step 7: After the script comes voice over. Users can either select one of the six pre-set voices or use their own voice.
Step 8: In the next step, users will be able to add stock images and videos to their video based on their selected template. They will also be able to record their screens and then add the recorded video to the final video.
Step 9: Once all the changes are done, users will be able to play it and share it with their colleagues.
Google says that Google Vids is ideal for work, product demoes, project updates, company milestones, tutorials, employee onboarding and more. Apart from this, Google Vids can also be used by content creators for creating short videos, which in turn will help them save time and money.
Google says that Google Vids will be released to Workspace Labs in June. It will also be available with Gemini for Google Workspace soon.
