Story Highlights

  • Meta has updated the Facebook Messenger app with some useful features.
  • Messenger users can now send HD photos and create shared albums with friends.
  • Messenger users can now also connect with more people by sharing their profile's QR code.

Meta’s one of the oldest chat apps, Facebook Messenger, is getting the much-needed attention. The company has announced several features for the app users such as the ability to send HD phones, make new connections with a QR Code, and create albums with friends in a chat. Moreover, Messenger users can now send files of up to 100MB, making it convenient for those who so far relied on emails for larger files.

Let’s see how these features work and how you can use them right now.

Send HD photos on Facebook Messenger: Here’s how

Facebook Messenger now supports HD photos, meaning that you no longer have to share fully compressed images. This can be helpful for some. It appears to be trickling down from WhatsApp, which has the HD photos option for a while now. Here’s how you can send Photos on Messenger.

Step 1: Open the Messenger app.

Step 2: Open a chat to which you want to send an HD photo.

Step 3: Tap on the Image icon and look for the photos that you want to send.

Step 4: Select the ones you want to and then tap on the HD option.

Step 5: Lastly, tap on Send.

Create a Shared Album with friends: Here’s how

This one is for close friends, couples, and other close pairs who want to keep their memories under one roof. Messenger users can now create shared albums and continue to add photos to them, allowing them to reminisce over their best moments. Here’s how you can create a shared album.

Step 1: Open the Messenger app.

Step 2: Open your friend’s or the person’s chat to create a shared album.

Step 3: Tap on the Image icon and look for the photos that you want in the shared album.

Step 4: Tap on Create album. You can also long-press a photo in the chat and tap on the Create album option.

That’s how easily you can create a shared album on Messenger. You can rename it by tapping on three dots and editing the name, followed by confirming the album name.

You can now use QR code to connect with others

You no longer have to tell others to search for your name or username to add you, instead, you can now share your QR code. Your QR code can be accessed in Settings > QR Code. Tap on Share to send it to others. Others can scan your code from their phone’s camera through the gallery, add you as a friend and start chatting.

Send 100MB files on Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger users can finally share large files of up to 100MB. This comes after a long wait as WhatsApp already lets you send files of over 2GB. We aren’t sure when that’s coming to Messenger, but at least we can now send quality photo files and larger PDFs or Excel files.
