The new Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphones were launched at the Galaxy Unpacked event recently. The latest flagship handsets are powered by a customised version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and sport Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays. The Galaxy S23 family is the first smartphone series to feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. We used the Galaxy S23 Ultra (12GB RAM/256 GB internal storage) for around a week and here is what we think about the latest premium smartphone from Samsung. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Camera:

The Galaxy S23 Ultra features a 200MP main camera with OIS, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, a 10MP periscope telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 120-degree FOV. The rear cameras can record in 8K at up to 30FPS and 4K UHD at up to 60FPS in HDR10+. In a Samsung Galaxy first, Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a new 200MP Adaptive Pixel sensor that captures moments with incredible precision. It uses pixel binning to support multiple levels of high-resolution processing at once. The sensors on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra are excellent. The smartphone does a great job of taking excellent daylight shots using the most basic settings and also best possible footage with the 3X and 10X zoom cameras.

In addition, the portrait mode is pretty good on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Galaxy S23 Ultra takes great photos at night that you would love to share them on Instagram. The Expert RAW app, available on Samsung Galaxy, enables DSLR-style image shooting and editing in RAW and JPEG — no bulky camera equipment is required. Meanwhile, recording videos feel more cinematic with enhanced 8K video 8 at 30 frames per second with a wider angle and during the day, we easily managed to get steady videos with beautiful lively colors.

On the front, the S23 Ultra includes a 12MP selfie camera that sits inside the hole punch display. The selfies we clicked during our review comes with excellent detail in all lighting conditions.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Performance:

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is powered by a custom version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, along with up to 12GB of RAM. The phone offers up to 1TB of onboard storage. A newly designed CPU micro architecture boosts the processing abilities of the Galaxy S23 Ultra by about 30 percent compared to the Galaxy S22 series. One of the most significant improvements to the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the optimized GPU, which the company says is approximately 41 percent faster compared to Galaxy 22 series and designed especially for power users. The smartphone lets you do performance-oriented task with an ease. During our usage, we did not feel any lag while using the device for everyday tasks such as using it for emails, calls, surfing, browsing, watching videos, etc.

For hardcore gamers, Galaxy S23 Ultra comes ready to support real-time ray tracing as it comes to the mobile gaming mainstream. Users will be able to see noticeably more lifelike renderings of scenes, thanks to technology that simulates and tracks every ray of light. Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra’s vapor chamber now bigger. While, testing the phone we even enjoyed planning some famous battle royale games like Apex Legends and Free Fire. While playing games we did not faced any issue either relates to frames or heating, and the smartphone performed efficiently.

In addition, the S23 Ultra integrates the S Pen just like its predecessor. The S Pen can be found on the bottom left corner of the S23 Ultra beside the charging port. As soon as you pull out the S Pen from the smartphone, you can start writing things down,

It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging and Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 which offers 15W charging speeds. The charging technology is claimed to fill the battery 65 percent in just 20 minutes. It also offers Wireless PowerShare for charging other wireless charging-supported devices. During our review, the Galaxy S22 Ultra delivered battery life and charging far better than its Android competitors. If your usage is anything like mine, using social media, watching a bit of videos or clicking photos you are easily up with a full day of usage. With a 45W charger which is a perfect fit for the Ultra, it will take 45 mins to charge 88 percent and around 1 hour for 100 percent charge.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Design and Display:

In terms of design, the Galaxy S23 Ultra 23 looks identical to the Galaxy S22 Ultra that was launched last year. The smartphone comes with curved edges and matte-finished rear panel that are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The device comes with the same floating camera layout, but with chrome rings around each of the lenses. The power button is located just above center on the right edge. The SIM card tray is located at the bottom edge of the Galaxy S23 Ultra along with the USB-C port, speaker grille, and S Pen. The S23 Ultra does not feature a headphone jack, just like the previous model. According to the company, the Samsung Galaxy increases its use of recycled materials from six internal components in Galaxy S22 Ultra to 12 internal and external components in Galaxy S23 Ultra. Galaxy S23 series also has a wider variety of recycled materials than any other Galaxy smartphone, including pre-consumer recycled aluminum and glass and post-consumer recycled plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets, PET bottles and water barrels. The new S series is the first to feature Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, offering durability for long-term use and consisting of an average of 22 percent pre-consumer recycled content.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra provides an expansive 6.8-inch edge display with a reduced curvature to create a larger and flatter surface area 15 for the best visual experience on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Samsung Galaxy’s unique enhanced comfort feature allows users to adjust color tones and contrast levels, lessening eye strain from screen time at night. Vision booster now adjusts at three levels of lighting instead of two to combat brightness and glare in daylight. Over all, the screen is pretty good and during our review we used the smartphone to watch shows on OTT platforms and we can assure you that the display of the Galaxy S23 Ultra can match the refresh rate of any video content.
