Who is Abidur Chowdhury?

Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event has dropped some of the most exciting launches of the year. The iPhone 17 series, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and the new AirPods Pro 3. But what has been the showstopper and the most-talked-about launch of all is surely the iPhone Air. And to present this whole new slimmest iPhone ever, Tim Cook didn’t step in; instead, a voice-over narrated all about it. And the name at the beginning of the iPhone Air was enough to grab eyeballs during the keynote.

That voice belonged to Abidur Chowdhury, an industrial designer at Apple, who surprisingly didn’t appear on camera. So, who is Abidur Chowdhury? And how did he end up shaping one of Apple’s most ambitious hardware projects in years?

Who Is Abidur Chowdhury?

Based on the information available via his LinkedIn and other platforms, Abidur Chowdhury was born and raised in London and now lives in San Francisco, where he works as part of Apple’s industrial design team. He studied Product Design and Technology at Loughborough University in the UK, a school known for producing some top names in product and industrial design.

Before his time at Apple, Chowdhury worked with design consultancies like Cambridge Consultants, Curventa, and Layer Design, gathering hands-on experience across consumer tech and innovation-focused projects. He also spent time freelancing before making the move to California, where he joined Apple in 2019. Via his personal website, he describes himself as someone excited by solving problems and creating products that people “can’t bear to be without.”

At Apple’s September event, it was Chowdhury who introduced the iPhone Air, describing it as “a piece of the future.” While Apple usually puts a face to each segment of their product launches, Chowdhury remained unseen.

iPhone Air: What New Does It Bring To The Table?

The iPhone Air has been introduced as Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever, which measures just 5.5mm in thickness, but still manages to house a Pro-level A19 Pro chip and Moreover, it features a 6.5-inch OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion. That means you will be able to enjoy always-on-display. However, there is a single 48MP Fusion camera, but the front gets an 18MP selfie camera. It starts at Rs 1,19,990 for the base variant of 256GB.
