Microsoft is reportedly working on a cheaper Xbox Series X console without a disc drive. The Exputer has shared some images of the console in the works. It is said to be the Series X White version, and the colour is akin to the robot white shade of the Xbox Series S. Also, the design of the new model is identical to the black disc version of the existing console.
The leaked images of the Series X reveal the design from the front, back, and sides. It has multiple ports on the rear. There are some ports on the front as well. We also get to see the Xbox branding in the upper left corner. Apart from this, the other details of the console aren’t available.
Xbox Series X leaks continue to show up. This isn’t the first such leak as there was a massive leak back in 2023 that showcased a cylindrical console. The oddly-shaped Series X was reported to arrive in November 2024. It was reported to cost $500 (roughly Rs 41,600). That said, we still have several months before it shows up.
The reported console was codenamed Brookling and was said to come with the following connectivity options – Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a USB-C port on the front. It was also said to come with a southbridge and a 6nm die shrink.
Unfortunately, the news about the cylindrical was considered to be inaccurate. However, Xbox boss Phil Spencer shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that said that its previous plans have changed and there are some other real plans that the company will share when it’s ready.
“We’ve seen the conversation around old emails and documents. It is hard to see our team’s work shared in this way because so much has changed and there’s so much to be excited about right now, and in the future. We will share the real plans when we are ready.”
Spencer here, was probably alluding to the updated Series X console. If all goes right and is in line with the leaks, we should see a brand new Series X later this year. The upcoming console may be cheaper and lack a disc drive, as noted by the latest leak.
