Google is shaking things up on its homepage after years and replacing the I’m Feeling Lucky button with a new AI Mode button. This is great news, as it shows that Google is going all in on AI and is now giving users the ability to browse with the power of Artificial Intelligence. The new AI Mode is currently being rolled out to select users under Google’s Labs experimental program. It’s designed to act as a gateway to Gemini, Google’s AI-powered assistant, and boils your search down into bullet points from related sources across the internet. Unlike a regular AI Overview, AI Mode creates its own summary without relying on the original sources. It’s like a combination of an AI chatbot and search engine. That’s a huge shift. Google rarely messes with its clean and minimalist front page, so this move signals just how seriously it’s taking the battle for AI search dominance. Also Read: Why goblins and gremlins suddenly showed up in ChatGPT replies
Another reason why this shift is such a big deal is that Google has been under massive pressure and facing tough competition in AI search, especially from OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reportedly has around 160 million daily active users. That’s why Google has been aggressively pushing its new AI tools wherever it can, aiming to make AI feel native to how people search. The move to bring AI Mode directly to the homepage is clearly part of that strategy to make AI more accessible and pull in more ChatGPT users.
With AI now becoming more than just a buzzword and big tech giants like Google working on multiple new AI tools it looks like we could soon see a drastic transformation in the way people browse the internet and interact with information altogether.
