At Apple’s much-anticipated “Awe-Dropping” event on September 9 in Cupertino, California, the company unveiled its thinnest iPhone ever – the iPhone Air. Measuring just 5.6mm and weighing only 165 grams, Apple described it as so slim and light that it “nearly disappears in your hand.” The device drew the loudest cheers from the crowd, and now, industry leaders are also weighing in.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “first new iphone upgrade i have really wanted in awhile! looks very cool.” His short post quickly sparked a wave of responses from users.

Some agreed with his excitement, while others expressed skepticism about Apple’s latest design direction. One user replied, “I don’t see the hype at all,” while another asked him to clarify, “Are you thinking the Pro or the Air?”
Launched at a starting price of Rs 1,19,900, the iPhone Air is Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet at 5.6mm thickness. It challenges Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which measures 5.8mm. The iPhone Air’s frame is crafted using ‘spacecraft titanium’. It retains the Action and Camera Control buttons from last year’s iPhones.
The iPhone Air sports a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with 120Hz ProMotion technology, supporting up to 3000 nits peak brightness and Always-on functionality. The device is powered by Apple’s latest A19 Pro chip with a 5-core GPU. It is claimed to offer an all-day battery with up to 27 hours of video playback, matching last year’s iPhone 16 Plus.
The iPhone Air features a single 48MP Fusion main rear camera with up to 2x optical-quality zoom. On the front, it gets an 18MP Center Stage selfie camera. Both rear and front cameras support Dual Capture.
Alongside the iPhone Air, Apple also announced the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 11, AirPods Pro 3, Watch Ultra 3, and Watch SE 3 at the event.
