OnePlus is officially closing the chapter on its partnership with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad. This means the brand’s next flagship, the OnePlus 15, will not feature the Hasselblad branding that has been part of its phones since 2021. Instead, the company is charting its own path in mobile photography with a new in-house imaging system.

Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, confirmed that the company is working on what it calls the OnePlus DetailMax Engine, an advanced imaging technology designed to improve camera performance. While he admitted that the engine is still in early development, Lau said the initial results are “promising,” hinting at a major shift in how OnePlus approaches smartphone photography.

The departure from Hasselblad doesn’t come with bitterness. In fact, Lau shared a message of gratitude: “To Hasselblad: thank you for your craft, your trust, and for showing us the heights passion and precision can reach.” He added that the partnership delivered on its promises and that OnePlus remains open to future collaborations.

As for the OnePlus 15, it’s shaping up to be one of the company’s boldest flagships yet. Early leaks suggest a flatter frame design, reminiscent of the OnePlus 9 and 10 series, moving away from the curved builds of more recent models. Under the hood, the phone is expected to run on Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, which will debut later this month.

Battery life could also see a big boost. Reports suggest OnePlus will once again use silicon-carbon battery technology, potentially allowing the device to pack a massive 7,000mAh or larger battery, a significant jump compared to most current flagships.

OnePlus is skipping the number 14 and jumping straight to the OnePlus 15, expected to arrive later this year. With a refreshed design, upgraded hardware, and a camera system built in-house, the phone could mark a fresh chapter for the brand as it pushes further into the premium smartphone market.
