
Microsoft Surface Event updates: Microsoft is set to host its annual developers’ conference, Build 2024, tonight. Ahead of the annual conference, the company hosted the Microsoft Surface Event wherein the company announced Copilot+ PCs in partnership with companies such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung. In addition to this, Microsoft also announced its own Copilot+ PCs, that is, the Microsoft Surface Pro and the Microsoft Surface laptops.
Microsoft said that its new Surface Pro and the Surface laptops come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors and that they “are faster than the latest Macbook Air.”
“In addition, the powerful new Prism emulation engine delivers a 2x performance boost compared to Surface Pro 9 with 5G. On the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, powered by Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors, experiences like Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft 365 and Chrome will feel snappy, quick and responsive,” the company wrote in its blog post.
Talking about the performance, the company said that its Copilot+ PCs perform over 45 trillion of operations per second (TOPS). These PCs also use NPUs’ power to deliver new AI experiences. Here are three interesting things that users can do:
— With Recall, user can find what they have seen on their PC using the clues that they remember. Users can use natural language to search, or scroll back through time, and get back to what they need to find through text and visual matches.
— Using Cocreator in Paint, users can use ink strokes and words to describe the image that they want to create.
— Live Captions has been upgraded with Live Translation, which users can use to turn audio that passes through their PCs into a consistent English captions experience in real time on your PC.
The Microsoft Surface Pro comes in two display variants — OLED and LCD. Both the variants of the Surface Pro laptop comes with a 13-inch OLED display with PixelSense Flow technology, a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels, a screen refresh rate of up to 120Hz, Dolby Vision IQ support and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
In terms of performance, the Microsoft Surface Pro is powered by either Snapdragon X Plus or Snapdragon X Elite processor. This processor is coupled with Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, Qualcomm Adreno GPU, up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB of Gen 4 SSD storage. It offers up to 14 hours of runtime.
It runs Windows 11 and it has 1440p Quad HD camera with ultra-wide field of view and 10MP Ultra HD rear-facing camera. On the audio front, it has a 2W stereo speakers with Doby Atmos and Bluetooth LE Audio.
For connectivity, this laptop has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The new Surface Pro laptop comes in Black and Platinum colour variants.
The Microsoft Surface comes in two size-variants. The 13.8-inch Surface laptop sports PixelSense Flow display with a resolution of 2304 x 1536 pixels, a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz, Dolby Vision IQ support and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. This variant will be available with Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite processor options and offer up to 20 hours of playback time.
The 15-inch Surface laptop sports PixelSense Flow display with a resolution of 2496 x 1664 pixels, a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz, Dolby Vision IQ support and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. This variant will be available with Snapdragon X Elite processor and offer up to 22 hours of battery life.
The Microsoft Surface laptop comes with Qualcomm Hexagaon NPU that is coupled with Qualcomm Adreno GPU, up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of Gen 4 SSD. It is powered by Windows 11 and it has a 1080p Full HD camera in the front. On the audio front, it has Omnisonic Speakers with Dolby Atmos 28 and Bluetooth LE Audio support. For connectivity, the new Surface Laptop has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It will be available in Black and Platinum colour variants.
The newly launched Surface Pro and Surface Laptop come at a starting price of $999 (Rs 83,200 approximately) and they will be available in markets across the globe starting June 18.
