Apple introduced its own AI called Artificial Intelligence at the WWDC 2024 and is utilizing it across platforms like iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Interestingly, Siri has also received a much-needed boost with AI. Additionally, Apple has partnered with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT support that works through Siri. With the latest update, Siri has just become more powerful and useful than earlier. Here’s how the AI and ChatGPT-supercharged Siri promises to be a better assistant for Apple users.
Before we get down to the crux of it, let’s start with the redesign. Yes, Siri has received a redesign and it’s more user-friendly. The small little circular Siri icon has been replaced with an elegant glowing light that wraps around the edge of the screen.
Thanks to Apple Intelligence, which is nothing but Apple’s own way of calling Artificial Intelligence, Siri is now smarter, natural, and personal while being relevant. With the updated Siri, Apple aims to accelerate users’ everyday tasks, and it seems to do just that.
Starting from getting more relevant information from the web to getting images generated through ChatGPT, Siri can do it all. Siri has conversation context and follows up with previously asked queries. For instance, If you ask about the weather in a specific region, say Mumbai, you can then ask a follow-up question about the same location. Or, you can simply ask it to schedule a hike and it will do that with location in context.
As for the ChatGPT integration, users can now directly ask Siri to generate images and Siri will route the image generation query through ChatGPT. Furthermore, Siri can read through your Mails and other apps and give you answers based on that information. For instance, if you have a lunch reservation, you can just ask Siri about it and it can learn through an email and answer you about the exact details of your lunch reservation. Further, it can give your ETA for the restaurant where you need to head at 1 PM.
In addition, Siri can answer all your queries about the iPhone or other Apple services. So if you ask it about how to schedule emails to send them later, Siri won’t go to Google and link you to an article, instead, it will give you steps to do that. For other queries that are not related to the iPhone, you can get the answers to those queries through ChatGPT without opening the app.
Lastly, you can now Type to Siri with a double tap at the bottom of the screen. This can be useful when you can’t speak to Siri since you are probably in a quiet place.
The supercharged version of Siri will be available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia this fall for the public. Developers can install the beta update of the OS right now, however, you won’t find all the changes yet. Also, it is worth noting that the new Siri is powered by Apple Intelligence, which is coming exclusively to the Pro iPhones. That said, you may not be able to use all the features on non-Pro devices.
