Huawei is planning to go head to head with Nvidia and could be testing its newest and most powerful AI processor, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. news Also Read: Acer Nitro V 15 With 165Hz Display, NVIDIA RTX 5050 GPU Launched In India: Price, Specs, Features

Huawei has approached several Chinese tech companies to test the technical feasibility of its new chip, named the Ascend 910D. It is being reported that it could be more powerful as compared to Nvidia’s H100 and the company might soon get its first batch of samples as early as late May.  news Also Read: Acer Predator Helios 18P AI Launched With Up To RTX 5090 GPU At IFA 2025: Price, Specs, Features

Currently, the Ascend 910D is still in early development and could undergo multiple rounds of testing to evaluate performance and prepare it for broader customer use. Meanwhile, Reuters reports that Huawei could begin mass shipments of its previous 910C AI chip to Chinese customers as soon as next month.

Huawei and other Chinese firms have struggled to match Nvidia’s dominance in AI chips, and the latest trade war and tariffs could further restrict China’s access to Nvidia’s top-end products, including the H100 and the newer B200 chips. This is the main reason Chinese companies are accelerating their domestic innovation efforts and creating their own technologies.

Despite being placed on a US trade blacklist nearly six years ago, Huawei has managed to survive and compete in the smartphone space. Globally, they might have taken a hit due to the lack of Google services on their phones, but their innovations continue to impress smartphone enthusiasts. The Pura X is an example, which is a one of a kind flip phone that unfolds almost like a book. Not only that, but their triple-fold phone launched last year also proved that Huawei is still ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation.

This new Ascend 910D could be another step for Huawei to truly compete with Nvidia and build a semiconductor ecosystem of its own, challenging US tech dominance.
