Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) is locking the live streaming feature behind the paywall. Yes, you heard that right. You will soon have to pay to livestream on the platform. However, you do not have to pay just for live streaming, rather, the feature will be available as part of X Premium. That said, you will have to subscribe to X Premium to use the live streaming feature.
X’s official Live account took to X to reveal the announcement.
“Starting soon, only Premium subscribers will be able to livestream (create live video streams) on X. This includes going live from an encoder with X integration. Upgrade to Premium to continue going live.”
Interestingly, if there’s an app that has X integration for live streaming, then also you will need X Premium. So paying is the only way to continue live streaming on the platform.
Currently, X Premium has two Premium plans. Both plans were launched last year. X Premium costs Rs 680 per month or Rs 6,800 per year on the web. On iOS, it costs Rs 900 per month or Rs 9,400 per year.
The X Premium Plus, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 1,300 per month and Rs 13,600 per year. The monthly and annual pricing on iOS for Premium Plus is Rs 2,299 and Rs 22,900. On Android, it costs Rs 2,150 monthly and Rs 22,600 yearly.
While X Premium and Premium Plus will soon offer the live streaming feature, they also have many other added benefits.
X Premium users get access to the Grok AI chatbot, which is in the early access for now. They also get features like Replay boost, Edit boost, Longer posts, Undo posts, Top Articles, Background video playback, and Downloading option. The plan offers limited ads and gets you a verification (the blue tick). It also offers access to Creator Hub where you can get access to X Pro (formerly TweetDeck), Media Studio, Analytics, and more.
X Premium Plus users get all of the X Premium features, but with no ads at all. And of course, both tiers will soon get the live streaming feature.
Other than this, X also has another subscription tier called Basic, which costs Rs 243 per month and Rs 2,590 per year. It does not offer offer verification or any Creator Hub tools. However, users get Longer posts, Undo posts, Top Articles, and other similar features. But even after paying, users will be able to see “Full” ads.
