LinkedIn has rolled out a new update to its Open to Work feature, giving job seekers more flexibility and control over how they present themselves to potential employers. The Microsoft-owned platform now lets users share their notice period and expected salary directly on their profiles – details that will only be visible to recruiters. news Also Read: Windows 10 And Windows 11 Hit By High-Severity Security Flaw: CERT-In Issues Warning

Until now, Open to Work simply displayed a badge on a user’s profile, signalling that they were open to new opportunities. With the new update, LinkedIn is aiming to make the hiring process more transparent for both sides. Recruiters can now instantly see how soon a candidate could join and whether their compensation expectations align with the company’s budget – cutting down on unnecessary back-and-forth conversations. news Also Read: Microsoft Blocks Largest-Ever Cloud DDoS Attack Aimed At Australian Website: Here’s What Happened

LinkedIn said that the new fields are completely optional, meaning users can choose whether to share this information. The feature will be available for all users, including those on free tier. news Also Read: Microsoft Users At High Risk: Indian Govt Recommends Updating Your Devices Now

In a statement, the company explained that the additions are designed to “help professionals communicate their job preferences more clearly and speed up the hiring process.” Recruiters will be the only ones who can view these details – not other users or colleagues.

Why LinkedIn added notice period and salary info

The Open to Work feature has been one of LinkedIn’s most widely used tools, with the company claiming that 85% of users who enable it receive help, encouragement, or leads from their network. However, it hasn’t always been efficient. Candidates often receive offers that don’t match their salary range or availability.

By allowing job seekers to share notice periods and salary expectations upfront, LinkedIn hopes to make job hunting less stressful and more targeted.

The update is already rolling out in India, and LinkedIn says it will continue to refine how recruiters access this information. While the company claims it hides Open to Work details from a user’s current employer, it also admits that complete privacy cannot be guaranteed.
