
With the increasing advancement in digitization, protecting users from potentially harmful content has become more essential than ever. Messaging platforms like Google Messages are evolving beyond just sending texts, and hence, in a new development, the platform is rolling out a feature that will warn against Sensitive Content.
Google Messages is rolling out a new feature wherein users will be made aware about the sensitive content on the platform. The feature will be enabled by default for the users who are under 18 years of age. However, the feature will be disabled by default for users who are above 18 years of age.
Whether it’s through AI moderation or smarter privacy controls, the goal of Google Messages is to give users more control over what they see and share in their conversations. The feature has not been widely rolled out and was just spotted in two devices that are running on the latest beta version of Messages.
Additionally, parents will be able to control the feature for their supervised users with the help of Family Link app. However, unsupervised teens, including 18 years of age will be able to turn off the feature by heading to the Google Messages settings.
The upcoming feature is powered by the Google’s SafetyCore system that helps in content classification without sending “identifiable data or any of the classified content or results to Google servers,” as per Google. Users will get three options when receiving nudity or explicit content. All three options are:
The feature can be found in Google Message Settings, protection & safety, and then Manage sensitive content warnings. To recall, the feature was announced in October last year.
