While the Google Pixel 9 series launch is just around the corner, the tech giant has also started the development of Wear OS 5.1 according to the latest rumors. In a report published on Android Authority, it has been said that the latest version of Wear OS will be based on an entirely different version of Android – as compared to the previous Wear OS updates. It was also revealed that the initial lettering of the new build will be ‘AP4A’, instead of the traditional ‘AW2A’ number. Keeping in mind that the Wear OS 5 is based on Android 14, the change in build number could mean that the latest Wear OS will run on Android 15. Google has always defied consistency when it comes to launching the Wear OS. The last update before Wear OS 5 was Wear OS 3.5 based on Android 13. And then Google introduced the Wear OS 5 based on the Android 14 operating system. Previous trends suggest that Google Wear OS updates are not regular or in a linear motion. However, a complete overhaul of the OS with new features on the table is something that we get to see in a brand-new version of Wear OS. This particular thing has increased the possibility of Google Wear OS 5.1 making a debut in the market as Google Wear OS 6 officially. Until now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the name of the update from Google. So the readers are suggested to take the information with a grain of salt.
Coming to the developer Wear OS 5, Google already mentioned that the OS will use 20% less power on default settings as compared to the previous versions. Furthermore, the Android Health feature will produce enhanced running data and goals with the Health Connect upgrades. Another major development was that all the watch faces built without using Watch Face Format (WFF) will not be supported on the Google Play Store for Wear OS 5.
