As per a report by TOI, the Apple Watch Series 9 has saved the life of a man with its feature to detect irregular heartbeats, the watch that he has been using for almost three years. According to the report, he was travelling to Jabalpur for a business meeting, and while coming back after completing all his tasks, he went to a movie. As soon as it started, his Apple Watch Series 9 started alerting him about an elevated heart rate. To avoid any misunderstanding, he checked the Apple Watch’s ECG app, which flagged tachycardia, which is another name for increased heartbeats. He immediately decided to skip his train and head to a nearby clinic for a checkup. Before that, he ran an ECG through his Apple Watch again, just to be sure. While the reading looked normal at first glance, the doctor advised him to go for a proper ECG and blood pressure test. That’s when things took a serious turn.
His blood pressure turned out to be 180/120, which is critically high and could have led to a stroke or even a brain haemorrhage if left untreated. The doctor told him that if he had boarded that train, he might not have survived the journey. Sahil was immediately admitted to the hospital for observation.
Looking back, he believes the Apple Watch truly saved his life. “If I hadn’t paid attention to that alert, I wouldn’t be here today,” Sahil said. The close call also pushed him to make major lifestyle changes — from eating healthy to managing stress better. “I’ve stopped junk food completely and try to sleep on time now,” he added.
Sahil, who recently got married, now plans to buy Apple Watches for his family members too, especially since they have a history of heart-related issues. Doctors say cases like these highlight how technology can complement awareness. Smartwatches like the Apple Watch can’t replace medical advice, but they can serve as early warning systems when something feels off. For Sahil, that one alert wasn’t just a notification; it was a life-saving signal that turned an ordinary day into a second chance at life.
