WhatsApp has announced a major update to Status. As a part of the update, the company has introduced five new features which Meta has already started rolling out to users.

WhatsApp Voice Status
WhatsApp has introduced the ability to record and share voice messages up to 30 seconds on WhatsApp Status. WhatsApp says that voice status can also be used for sending more personal updates.

WhatsApp Private Audience Selector
Until now, a status update was visible to all users in a user’s WhatsApp contacts. Now, the company has introduced new privacy settings that will let users choose the people with whom they want to share their status update. WhatsApp says that users’ most recent audience selection will be saved and used as the default for their next status update.

WhatsApp Status Profile Rings for New Updates
WhatsApp has also introduced ‘status profile rings’ for new status updates. The new status profile ring will inform users about the status updates from their friends and family members. WhatsApp says that this ring will be present around a user’s contact’s profile picture whenever they share a status update. It will be visible in the chat lists, group participant lists, and contact info.

WhatsApp Link Previews on Status
Lastly, WhatsApp says that when users post a link on their status, they will automatically see a visual preview of the link content, which is the same as the preview that they see when they send a message.
