Story Highlights

  • Twitter is X now.
  • Twitter's domain has been migrated to X.com.
  • This news was announced by Elon Musk.

Goodbye Twitter! Twitter became X last year in July. At the time, Elon Musk, the new owner of the microblogging site, not only changed the name of the platform but he also changed elements associated with it. For instance, tweets became posts, Twitter app became X app, and the beautiful blue bird logo became a giant ‘X’ mark against a dark background. Even as Twitter’s identity changed over the course of the year, one thing remained unchanged — its URL.

Even as Twitter began its journey to become X, the URL leading to the platform remained ‘twitter.com’ — just as its users remembered its since their first day on the microblogging platform. But now, Musk has stripped Twitter of the last shred of its old identity.

Musk via a post on X announced that X’s domain has been migrated from twitter.com to X.com. Check his post here:

With this update Twitter.com has officially become X.com nearly after 10 months of being acquired by the Tesla chief.

Twitter.com’s journey of becoming X.com

For the unversed, Elon Musk acquired Twitter back in 2022 for a whopping $44 billion, making it one of the biggest acquisitions of any social media platform. The much talked-about transaction began in April 2022 and concluded nearly six months later in October 2022. What followed was chaos and confusion among its employees and the users.

The next year, that is, in 2023 Musk began rolling out a slew of changes to the platform right from introducing the new tick-system for distinguishing between various accounts to introducing subscriptions on the platform to adding the ability to write articles and share longer videos on the platform.

In addition to that, Musk also changed the logo of the platform from the iconic Blue Bird to X and the name from Twitter.com to X.com. “The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth – like birds tweeting – but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video….The Twitter name does not make sense in that context, so we must bid adieu to the bird,” Musk wrote in a post detailing the change.
