The next year’s iPhone 18 Pro models are not tipped to get just major upgrades over the iPhone 17 Pro. But it is also tipped to get a Starlink Internet connection too for the first time. As per a report by The Information, Apple and SpaceX may finally be joining hands, and it could change how your iPhone connects to the internet. According to the report, Apple is reportedly in talks with SpaceX to bring Starlink-based internet support to the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, expected to launch in 2026. Now, before you get too excited, Apple and Elon Musk’s SpaceX haven’t exactly been best friends in the satellite internet game! Until now, Apple has relied on Globalstar for its satellite-powered Emergency SOS feature, which helps users contact emergency services without network coverage. But things might be shifting soon. As per the report, Apple is planning hardware upgrades in the iPhone 18 lineup that could allow direct satellite 5G connectivity. It is beyond the current feature of SOS emergency calling; instead, it is for actual internet access. This will be a big feature upgrade from the current setup on iPhones 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16, where satellite support is limited to emergency communication only. Interestingly, SpaceX has reportedly developed a new generation of Starlink satellites that use the same radio spectrum as Apple’s existing satellite tech. This could make the Apple-SpaceX partnership technically easier for both. If the deal goes through, Starlink internet on the iPhone 18 Pro could make global connectivity possible even in remote areas with no cell towers. For Apple, it could be another “Pro-only” feature that helps justify the upgrade.
There’s also another piece to this puzzle – Globalstar, Apple’s current satellite partner, might soon be up for sale, reportedly for around $10 billion. If that happens, Apple could be looking for a new partner – and SpaceX seems like the obvious choice.
Meanwhile, Starlink itself is expanding aggressively. The service is expected to launch in India around early 2026, with a focus on bringing internet to rural and remote regions. Pair that timing with the iPhone 18 Pro launch, and the partnership timeline starts to make sense.
However, it must be noted that Apple hasn’t confirmed anything officially yet, but if the reports hold true, this could be one of the biggest tech partnerships in years.
