Apple is set to introduce the iPhone 17 series globally at its ‘Awe Dropping’ event tomorrow, September 9. The iPhone 17 lineup – expected to include iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max – has been a subject of leaks and rumours for almost a year now, revealing the design and specifications of the devices. Just a day ahead of the official launch, a new leak has revealed the battery capacities of all the four models in the lineup. Here’s what you need to know about the iPhone 17 series before it debuts at the Apple event.
Tipster Abhishek Yadav spotted the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max in the CQC certification, revealing their battery capacities. As per the leak, the slimmest iPhone 17 Air could feature a smaller cell with 3,149mAh capacity. The iPhone 17 is said to pack a 3,692mAh battery. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to pack a 4,252mAh battery for global units and 3,988mAh for China. Lastly, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could house the largest battery in an iPhone, coming in at 5,088mAh. The Chinese variant of the Pro Max model could launch with a 4,823mAh unit.
While Apple doesn’t reveal the battery capacities of its iPhones, tests reveal the juice the cells provide to the devices. If the leaked capacities are anything to go by, Apple may not offer monumental upgrades in terms of battery life with the next-generation iPhones. To compare, the current iPhone 16 series packs lower capacity batteries under the hood. The iPhone 16 features a 3,561mAh cell, while the iPhone 16 Plus houses a 4,674mAh unit. The iPhone 16 Pro is backed by a 3,582mAh battery and the iPhone 16 Pro Max gets a 4,685mAh cell.
