iPhone 18 Pro: What To Expect

Major Camera Upgrade

This is one of the major upgrades that is expected so far. Apple is reportedly working on adding a variable aperture to the iPhone 18 Pro’s main 48MP camera. Unlike the current fixed aperture setup (ƒ/1.78 on the iPhone 17 Pro), a variable aperture will let you manually adjust how much light enters the lens.

In simpler terms, it’ll give you more control over how much of a photo stays in focus. A wider aperture could give you those nice, blurred backgrounds, while a smaller one could keep more of the scene sharp. It’s a feature that might appeal to photography enthusiasts who like a bit more creative control.

Dynamic Island Upgrade

Remember when the Dynamic Island debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro? Well, Apple might be planning to shrink it slightly on the iPhone 18 series. Leaks suggest that both the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will feature a smaller version of the Dynamic Island – likely a step toward the future all-glass iPhone that’s been rumoured for years.

However, if you were hoping for under-screen Face ID, that may not happen just yet. Reports indicate Apple is saving that for the iPhone 19 Pro or even later. So for now, Face ID will still sit right on the screen, just in a slightly smaller notch.

A ‘Translucent’ MagSafe?

What’s new is a “slightly transparent” MagSafe area on the back. It’s not clear what this means just yet, but leaks suggest the Ceramic Shield surface around the MagSafe ring could have a frosted or translucent finish. Think of it as a small design tweak that subtly refreshes the look.

iPhone 18 Pro Design

Design-wise, Apple doesn’t seem to be making big changes this time around. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to retain the same size – 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max – along with a familiar triple-camera setup.

iPhone 18 Pro Expected Specs

On the performance side, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to debut Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built using TSMC’s 2nm process – which should mean better speed and power efficiency. It could also feature Apple’s in-house C2 modem for improved 5G performance in the U.S., and a new pressure-sensitive Camera Control button for more precise shooting.
