As the iPhone 17 Pro gears up for its expected September 2025 launch, new images of what appears to be its battery have surfaced online, giving us a closer look at what’s changing on the inside. Tipster Majin Bu has shared photos of the battery unit, and what’s interesting is the shift to a new L-shaped design packed inside a steel case. iPhone 17 Pro: U.S. vs China Battery Design

The leaked images also show that Apple may have different internal layouts for different markets. The U.S. version appears wider and does not need space for a SIM tray, thanks to eSIM support. That extra space seems to have been used to expand battery width—potentially increasing capacity without changing the phone’s dimensions.

In contrast, the Chinese version clearly includes a physical SIM tray slot, which slightly alters the layout. Despite the difference, both versions stick to the familiar L-shaped format.

While there’s no confirmation yet on charging speed improvements, the steel casing could help manage heat better—something that usually matters during fast charging and heavy usage. Majin Bu also notes that Apple is using new adhesives that may make battery replacement easier, which could be part of Apple’s broader push toward better repairability.

Another interesting bit is the positioning of the logic board. According to the leak, it’s placed horizontally at the top of the phone, which suggests Apple is refining the internal structure for better space optimisation.

Keep in mind, this is a prototype, and we’re still months away from launch. But if this leak holds up, it gives us an early peek at how Apple is thinking about power, heat, and efficiency for the next Pro model.
