Apple is all set to unveil the next generation iPhones at its Awe Dropping event today, September 9. The iPhone 17 series is expected to include four models – the standard iPhone 17, the slim iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. With these new launches, Apple will likely discontinue some previous generation iPhones, while some will see a price cut.
Apple will follow its tradition of discontinuing previous generation Pro models along with two-generation older base models. That means the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus may be discontinued post-iPhone 17 series launch.
If Apple discontinues the above-mentioned models, it will only leave last year’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus in its portfolio. These models may see a price cut of Rs 10,000 , following Apple’s usual practice. When iPhone 16 series launched, Apple had officially reduced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus prices by Rs 10,000.
Though Apple will discontinue last year’s Pro models, but they might still be available for purchase through e-commerce platforms. With the festive season approaching, previous generation iPhones – including the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus – may get even cheaper on Flipkart, Amazon, and other online platforms.
Apple is expected to axe the Plus model this year, replacing it with the slimmest iPhone yet – the iPhone 17 Air. All four models this year will likely get a 120Hz ProMotion display. Apple is said to make a design shift with the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, giving them a makeover in terms of appearance. The Pro models are expected to sport a horizontal camera bar on the rear, housing the three lenses.
iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air may be powered by Apple’s A19 chipset, while the Pro models will feature the A19 Pro chip. The Air and Pro models could offer 12GB RAM, while the standard iPhone 17 could stick to 8GB.
Apple will host the Awe Dropping event tonight, September 9, at 10:30 PM IST. The launch event may see the iPhone 17 series, Apple Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, and more.
