WhatsApp is working on a new feature.

Story Highlights

  • WhatsApp now offers QR-based ticketing service for DTC buses.
  • Commuters can use a dedicated chatbot to book tickets.
  • The service is available on all supported phones.

WhatsApp on Wednesday launched a ticketing service for commuters in Delhi-NCR, giving them a convenient and time-saving way to buy tickets. Following a partnership between Meta-owned WhatsApp and the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), DTC bus passengers can book and purchase tickets using a WhatsApp chatbot. The new ticketing service will be available through a dedicated support number or a QR code.

Similar to the ticketing service for Delhi Metro on WhatsApp, the new DTC ticketing facility uses a chatbot to issue tickets to passengers. Available in both English and Hindi, the chatbot can be accessed through a dedicated chat ahead of a journey.

“The introduction of DTC’s QR ticketing service through WhatsApp represents a significant stride in enhancing customer experience, offering a more sophisticated and intelligent approach to local travel,” said Ravi Garg, director of business messaging at Meta India.

How to book a DTC bus ticket on WhatsApp

— Open WhatsApp on your phone.

— Tap the + button on Android and New Chat on iOS to start a new chat.

— Enter the following number to begin the chat: +91 8744073223.

— Send “Hi.”

— The chatbot will ask you the preferred language: English or Hindi, one of which you can tap.

— Now, tap the Book Ticket option to book a ticket.

— The chatbot will send a link to a mobile website with the ticketing facility.

— You can book the ticket by entering the source and destination on the website and making the required payment.

Alternatively, you can go to the Payments section on WhatsApp through the three-dot menu on Android and the Settings tab on iOS, and then choose “Delhi Transport Corporation” from the list of businesses. Another way is scanning a dedicated QR code from a camera-supported phone that directly opens the chatbot on your WhatsApp. The rest of the procedure to book a ticket is the same as mentioned.
