The contact ringtones tab is hidden in the Fix & manage menu on the app. The tab lets you stack several contacts in one place and set custom ringtones for them. You can set unique ringtones for each contact.
As per Google, the feature will ‘help you recognize who’s calling’. With this feature, you can set different ringtones for your family members and friends, while keeping a unique ringtone for office colleagues or workmates. It’s unclear how many contacts you can add to the contact ringtones list, but we expect you can add several of them.
Let’s see how you can set personalized ringtones to individual contacts.
As said above, the feature is available in Google Contacts version 4.27.26. That said, check if you have already updated the Contacts app on your phone to that version. If not, update the app via Play Store. Once down, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Open the Google Contacts app.
Step 2: Tap on the Fix & manage menu at the bottom right corner.
Step 3: Scroll towards the bottom and look for the Contact ringtones tab. You should be able to see the tab just below the Family Group tab and above the Blocked Numbers tab.
Step 4: Click on the Contact ringtones tab.
Step 5: Tap on Add contact ringtone.
Step 6: Select the contact to which you want to set a custom ringtone.
Step 7: After selecting the contact, you can now select a ringtone from Google’s list of ringtones. Tap the music folder and select the choice of your ringtone.
Step 8: Lastly, tap on SAVE. You add more such contacts to this list to identify the exact caller just by listening to the ringtone.
