Epic has announced the launch of the Epic Games Store. The games store is now available for iOS and Android, allowing users to download and install Fortnite on their devices. This is great news for iOS users as the game has been unavailable on the platform for a couple of years now. However, though it is now available on iOS, it’s limited to Europe, thanks to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). Fortnite is back on iOS, and users can download it via the Epic Games Store, courtesy European Union. For the unversed, Apple had banned Epic from the App Store a couple of years back for not complying with its App Store rules. However, after an epic battle between Epic and Apple in the courts, the European Union amended the Digital Markets Act, allowing Epic to launch its very own app store and letting iPhone users install Fortnite, among other games. “We’re launching on iOS devices in the European Union thanks to the Digital Markets Act, but Apple is still blocking all other iOS users outside of Europe from accessing Fortnite and Epic Games Store for iOS,” noted Epic in its blog post.
While Apple is allowing iOS users in the EU to play Fortnite, the rest of the world cannot enjoy it on their iPhones. Android users can download the Epic Games Store and play Fortnite anywhere in the world. The reason why Epic wanted to launch its own store on mobile was to get past the hefty cuts that Apple takes from developers. With its own store, Epic saves money and lets users play all of the games they love.
Now, to install Fortnite on iOS and Android, you need the Epic Games Store app installed on your iPhone. You can do that by following the below steps.
Step 1: Head to the Epic Games Store page by tapping the following link.
Step 2: Scan the QR code. You can either do that by opening your camera and pointing it to the QR on another display, or by taking a screenshot on your mobile device and scanning it via Google Lens.
Step 3: Then, install the Epic Games Store and sign up, followed by searching for the game and installing it on your device.
While it’s great to see Fortnite finally be available on iOS in the EU, we hope to be able to play it in any region. But that’s unlikely, unless some rule like DMA is amended in other regions.
