Motorola Edge 50 Pro just went on sale across online and brick-and-mortar stores. It comes across as a sleek phone with attractive looks and theoretically good specifications. However, it has good competition at its price point. Launched at a starting price of Rs 31,999, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is currently selling at Rs 29,999 as part of the introductory offer. If you are looking for a phone around that price, you may be confused between the Motorola Edge 50 Pro and another recently launched phone: the Samsung Galaxy M55 5G.
Launched recently, the Samsung Galaxy M55 5G measures up against the Motorola Edge 50 Pro in many aspects. It has a good display with a high refresh rate and a battery that can last a day easily. Samsung’s One UI is one of the best on the market, and its cameras are revered for their capability to retain good details. That poses the question: Is the Galaxy M55 5G a better option than the Motorola Edge 50 Pro? While I have yet to test both phones to give you an answer based on experience, let us draw up a comparison between their specifications.
Display: Both phones have a 6.7-inch display, but slightly different materials for the panels. While the Edge 50 Pro has an OLED panel with up to 144Hz refresh rate and 2000 nits of peak brightness, the display on the Galaxy M55 5G uses a Super AMOLED+ panel with up to 120Hz refresh rate and 1000 nits of brightness.
Processor: The Edge 50 Pro has an upper hand with a newer and more efficient Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset as compared with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor on the Galaxy M55 5G. Both smartphones have up to 12GB of RAM, but only the Motorola phone has a maximum storage of 512GB. Samsung’s Galaxy M55 5G, on the other hand, supports a microSD card for storage expansion.
Cameras: Going strictly by the numbers, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has better resolution cameras. Its rear system includes a 50MP wide sensor, a 10MP telephoto sensor, and a 13MP ultrawide sensor that also acts as a macro sensor. The Galaxy M55 5G, on the other hand, has a 50MP main wide sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, both Edge 50 Pro and Galaxy M55 5G have 50MP sensors inside punch-hole designs.
Battery: The Samsung Galaxy M55 5G can last longer with its 5000mAh battery than the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which has a slightly smaller 4500mAh battery. However, the Edge 50 Pro offers 125W fast wired and 50W wireless charging. The Galaxy M55 5G is stuck at 45W wired charging.
— Go for the Edge 50 Pro if you prioritise a faster processor, more RAM, a higher resolution front camera, or wireless charging. It starts at Rs 31,999 but is currently selling at Rs 29,999 with a temporary Rs 2,000 offer.
— Go for the Galaxy M55 5G if you prefer a larger battery or a potentially lower price point of Rs 26,999.
