Have you ever struggled to free up space on WhatsApp but couldn’t figure out which chat was eating up all that storage? That might soon change! WhatsApp is working on a new feature which will make managing your chats easier. As per a report by WabetaInfo, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a handy new feature that lets you manage storage for each chat separately. Well, the feature is still under development. The feature was first spotted in WhatsApp’s latest beta update for Android as the new “Manage Storage” option directly inside each chat’s info section. How will it benefit you? So, instead of going all the long way to Settings and then Storage and Data, you’ll be able to see how much space a particular chat or group. The new feature will give you a clear idea about the shared photos, videos and documents in the chat to segregate them by size. You must be thinking that it isn’t the same tool which you have in the Storage Settings? Yes, kind of. But the only difference is that this upcoming tool will be within the chat to quickly access it.
Until now, users could only view media through the “Media, Links, and Docs” tab, which doesn’t really tell you how much space those files occupy. With this new update, you can quickly identify which chat is consuming the most storage and delete unwanted items directly from that screen.
Whether it’s your family group full of festival videos or that one friend who loves sending memes all day, this feature will help you clean things up without losing important chats. It’s especially useful for users who exchange a lot of media daily, such as office groups or community chats. Managing storage becomes easier, faster, and something you can do on the go.
Before you get excited, know that the particular chat storage management feature is still in the testing phase for now, and it is only available to beta testers on Android. However, the report suggests that WhatsApp is expected to expand it to more users over the coming weeks, followed by a stable rollout for everyone, including iOS users.
