Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, has officially arrived on Google TV. The rollout starts with the newly launched TCL QM9K series, but more devices will get it later this year, including the Google TV Streamer, Walmart’s onn 4K Pro, and upcoming Hisense and TCL models. The big idea? You’ll now be able to talk to your TV in natural language, much like you do with Gemini on your phone. Just say “Hey Google” or use the mic button on the remote to get started. Also Read: How To Create Unique Rangoli Designs For Diwali Using Gemini Nano Banana AI Tool: Check Prompt
Gemini on TV goes beyond the old Google Assistant features. For instance, you can ask it to suggest shows based on everyone’s preferences in the room – maybe you like thrillers, but your partner prefers light comedies. It can also catch you up on a previous season, help you find reviews of a series, or even answer vague queries like, “What’s that new hospital drama people are talking about?” Also Read: Sundar Pichai Announces Google To Build India’s First Mega AI Hub With Airtel; PM Modi Reacts
But its use cases don’t stop at entertainment. You could ask Gemini to explain a science concept for kids, suggest recipes with video guides, or even brainstorm vacation ideas. And since it allows follow-up questions, conversations feel more natural and continuous.
And, what about the Google Assistant? Then know, if you’re wondering whether Gemini replaces Google Assistant, the answer is no. All the usual voice commands – like controlling smart home devices or pulling up the weather – will continue to work. Gemini just adds a new conversational layer on top of what’s already there.
The TCL QM9K is the first TV to feature Gemini, but more models will get it in the coming months. Expect it on the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn 4K Pro, and 2025 Hisense U7, U8, UX, as well as TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models. Over time, Google also plans to add more features tailored for TVs.
