X, formerly known as Twitter, has started rolling out a new messaging feature called Chat. It’s designed to give users more control and privacy while talking on the platform. The update brings end-to-end encryption and adds simple options to edit, delete, or make messages disappear after a certain time. At launch, Chat is available on iOS and the web, with Android support expected to follow soon. After updating the app, users will see both Chat and their old Direct Messages in the same inbox for easier access. The focus of Chat is on keeping messages private and secure. It supports encrypted file sharing and adds a screenshot block, so no one can secretly capture your chats. Users will also receive notifications if someone tries to take a screenshot of a conversation. Also Read: 7 Signs Your Social Media Account May Be Unsafe

Messages in Chat can be edited or deleted, and there’s also an option to make them disappear after a set duration, similar to disappearing messages seen on apps like WhatsApp and Signal. X says Chat will be ad-free and tracking-free, keeping conversations private and free from third-party data collection.
The addition of encryption marks an important step for X, which has been expanding its communication tools beyond social networking. The company says the feature is built to ensure that only participants in a conversation can read the messages or files shared.
Alongside Chat, X says voice memos are also coming back soon. The feature was part of Direct Messages earlier but is now being updated to work inside the new Chat window.
The rollout has already begun on iOS and the web. Android users are expected to get the update in the next few weeks as X continues to polish the new messaging system.
