Meta is reportedly working on a new smartwatch and is expected to launch it in September. The upcoming Meta smart glasses will not just be any other wearable and hence they might feature one of the standout enhancements and which is built-in camera. Meta’s next-generation AI-powered smart glasses will not just track health and fitness, but will also enhance the AI experience.

Meta is expected to debut its Smart Glasses in September during the Meta Connect conference. As per report, this upcoming smart watch was initially codenamed ‘Milan’ and was first spotted in 2021 with front facing camera along with a dual camera setup of 5MP and 10MP.

Nevertheless, Meta has not officially revealed anything yet, but it seems the tech giant is working on its smart glasses and it is expected to feature a built-in camera. The built-in camera feature in a smartwatch is a standout addition when compared to Meta’s rivals product like Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch. Additionally, the reported smartwatch is expected to feature a gold color casing along with side buttons.

The project was eventually shelved in mid-2022, reportedly due to technical challenges, including hardware constraints and complications with a nerve-signal-based control system that was still in development at the time.

As per reports, Meta has tapped Chinese manufacturer Huaqin Technology for the production of its upcoming smartwatch. While report indicates that Meta will unveil its smartwatch in September, but there’s still some doubt about whether it will be officially unveiled at Meta Connect 2025, set for 17-18 September in the US.

How it Could be a Competition for Apple and Galaxy Watches:

While Apple and Samsung majorly focuses on capturing health and fitness insights, Apple upcoming smartwatch could emerge as a tough competition for them by carrying a feature neither of its main rivals currently offers. We can’t deny the fact that Apple and Samsung dominate the smartwatch market, but Meta appears to be aiming for a different angle altogether.

The addition of built-in camera could unlock several next-gen possibilities including assisting in hands-free photo and video capture, computer vision tasks, and more. Hence the upcoming Meta smartwatch could arrive as a powerful companion in a wearable AI ecosystem.
