As Reliance Jio moves ahead with its deployment of 5G services in as many as 85 cities, it has launched a new data pack to encourage users to switch to the latest network. Jio is calling it the 5G Upgrade data pack. As the name suggests, this is just a data pack, meaning it will give you data over and above what you get as a part of your regular plan. This plan will not give you any calling or SMS benefits and the validity will be the same as your main plan. Also Read: Reliance Jio 9th Anniversary: What You Get With The New Rs 349 Recharge Plan
The new Jio Data Add-on plan costs Rs 61 and it is now listed on the company website. While the website does not say whether it is a 5G Upgrade pack, a report by Economic Times says the data will be up for high-speed consumption on the company’s 5G network. The Rs 61 prepaid data plan gives users 6GB of high-speed data, and, according to the report, this data will work on both 4G and 5G networks. Naturally, you will be able to use the data available under this plan on a 5G network in a city where Jio True 5G is available. Reliance Jio claims to have rolled out its 5G services in 85 cities as of January 9, 2023. The latest rollout took place in cities such as Kanpur, Agra, Prayagraj, Meerut, Kozhikode, Nellore, Nagpur, and Ahmednagar among others.
Essentially, you will remain on the 4G network unless you are subscribed to the Welcome Offer. For that, you will have to request an invite to the Welcome Offer using the MyJio app and the Jio website. Remember this offer will be applicable to users in cities where Jio’s 5G network is available. You will also need to be on a prepaid plan of at least Rs 239 to become eligible for the Welcome Offer.
Jio is leading the rollout of 5G services in India with coverage now in as many as 85 cities. Airtel, on the other hand, is behind with its 5G services having reached 25 cities, including Delhi, Gurugram, Patna, Siliguri, Nagpur, Indore, Bengaluru, and Lucknow among others. Jio is the only telecom operator rolling out the standalone (SA) 5G network. Airtel, on the other hand, is deploying the non-standalone (NSA) network.
