Reliance Jio has announced the launch of 5G services in major Tamil Nadu cities. In its bid to expand the 5G deployment, the company has enabled Jio True 5G services in Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Hosur, and Vellore, taking the total number of cities with Jio’s 5G network to 101. The 5G services were launched by Thiru T. Mano Thangaraj, minister for Information Technology & Digital Services, in the presence of Dr. Neeraj Mittal, additional chief secretary for the Information Technology & Digital Services Department of the Tamil Nadu government.
Jio’s 5G services will be available to users free of charge with speeds of over 1Gbps. However, to become eligible for the 5G services, users will need to request an invite to the Jio Welcome Offer. Jio says Welcome Offer will be applicable to users with a compatible phone and a recharge of at least Rs 239 on their number.
“I am happy to launch Jio’s True 5G services in Tamil Nadu. 5G services in the long run will bring transformational benefits for people of TN,” said Thangaraj.
Commenting at the occasion, Jio Spokesperson said, “We are excited to expand Jio True 5G in six more cities in Tamil Nadu. Soon, Jio True 5G network will be present across the length and breadth of Tamil Nadu. By December 2023 every village and town of TN will have Jio’s True 5G services.”
