Xiaomi is reportedly working on its next-generation Android tablets – the Xiaomi Pad 9 series – just months after unveiling the Pad 8 lineup in China. According to a fresh report from XiaomiTime, the company has already begun development of the Pad 9 series, which is expected to include two models – the Xiaomi Pad 9 and the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro. Both tablets have reportedly appeared in an online database, hinting at their internal development stage. The regular Xiaomi Pad 9 is said to be codenamed “Erhu,” while the higher-end Pad 9 Pro carries the name “Guitar.” This naming continues Xiaomi’s long-running habit of using musical instrument references for its tablet lineup – something we’ve seen with earlier Pad models too. The new leak hints that Xiaomi will launch the Pad 9 lineup in most global markets, but the Pro model might give India a miss. There’s no clear reason yet, but it wouldn’t be the first time. Xiaomi has previously skipped its high-end tablets for the Indian market, choosing instead to focus on mid-range models that appeal to a wider audience.
While we don’t yet know a lot of concrete details about the Pad 9 series, we can get a pretty good sense of the devices from the current generation Pad 8 lineup. The Xiaomi Pad 8 has an 11.2-inch 3.2K LCD panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision compatibility, and TÜV-certified eye protection. The tablet uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset and has a large 9,200mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging.
The Pad 8 Pro takes things a notch higher with the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a 50MP main camera, and faster 67W charging support. It also offers 4K video recording and a matte anti-glare finish.
Given Xiaomi’s usual launch pattern, more concrete information about the Pad 9 lineup – including specifications and release timeline – is expected to surface in the coming months.
