iPhone 17 Price Hike Over iPhone 16 Series Possible Due To These 3 Reasons

Apple is gearing up to launch its iPhone 17 series in just a few months. While the specifications and features have already been surfaced via several leaks and rumours that started even with the iPhone 16 launch, the price is still a matter of discussion amongst all. Apple has been steady in terms of the price of previous-generation iPhones so far. A latest report by Counterpoint Research suggests that the tech giant may pass on the tariff costs to customers. This simply means, higher the price of the iPhone 17 series! Here’s how.  Also Read: 5 Best iPhone 17 Alternatives To Consider If You Didn't Like It

iPhone 17 series price hike expected

Counterpoint Research has revised its global smartphone shipment growth forecast for 2025 to 1.9 percent YoY from the previous expected of 4.2 percent YoY. This comes in view of the US tariffs uncertainty. This is the sole reason which may push Apple to significantly impact the pricing strategy of the upcoming iPhones. However, the report hasn’t directly mentioned the iPhone 17 series, but the next series will be the prime to be affected. “Most regions are expected to grow, except North America and China… North America is expected to decline due to expected price increases from tariffs,” the report added.

Secondly, Samsung and Apple have also faced weakened demand, which could be another factor behind it. And another reason is the upgrades in display, chipset, and possibly cameras, which can be the factors behind the price hike, along with the cost of manufacturing. 

What does it mean for you?

If the report comes true, the iPhone 17 series – iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max – will face a price hike. However, nothing is official so far, as the price is only based on the prediction. 

For a quick recap about the price, know that the predecessor iPhone 16 series was launched at a starting price of Rs 79,900 for the base model and Rs 89,900 for the iPhone 16 Plus. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro models witnessed a price drop from their previous generation of around Rs 15,000. The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max were priced at Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,44,900, respectively.

Still, to know the price of the iPhone 17 series, we will have to wait for the official launch expected in September 2025.
