HMD Global might be gearing up to launch their first ever smartwatch scene. According to fresh leaks, the company is working on two new Wear OS-powered smartwatches. The HMD Rubber 1 and Rubber 1S could actually bring in some serious competition, as one of them is rumoured to feature a camera.  news Also Read: HMD Touch 4G At Just Rs 3999 Lets You Video Call, Cloud Apps Access, More

HMD Rubber 1 Leaked Specifications

According to some leaks, the Rubber 1 will reportedly feature a 1.85-inch OLED display and a 400mAh battery. The most interesting part of all this is that it supports USB-C and Qi wireless charging. This could be a first for a smartwatch, as Type-C charging is pretty much unheard of on Wear OS watches. news Also Read: HMD Vibe 5G With 50MP Camera, 1-Year Replacement Guarantee Launched In India: Price, Specs

It’s also expected to have all the connectivity features like Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, and NFC. Additionally, it is said to have a 5 ATM water resistance rating. The watch will also support all the usual health features like heart rate monitoring, SpO₂ tracking, and step counting. news Also Read: Motorola May Bring Back The Moto 360 Smartwatch, But Will It Run On Wear OS?

All of this is normal, but here’s where it gets interesting is that the Rubber 1 could come with a 2MP camera. This would be a first for any Wear OS device. Details on this are limited, but having a camera could make it a more kid-focussed watch.

On the other hand, the Rubber 1S could be a more affordable version with a smaller 1.05-inch OLED display. It is expected to have a 290mAh battery and a Bluetooth 5.0 setup. It retains the 5 ATM rating and the essential health tracking features, and is expected to run Google’s Wear OS.

Why is HMD making smartwatches?

HMD might target younger kids with these watches. This might also be true as HMD Global has already partnered with Xplora Technologies, a well-known maker of children’s smartwatches. Combining their expertise with simplified health tracking and Wear OS, HMD could actually make a strong kids’ watch that can do a lot more than just safety and tracking.

HMD Rubber 1 Launch Timeline

There’s no official word on pricing or launch dates just yet. But with leaks and rumours already making rounds on the internet, we could see an official announcement from HMD soon.
