Battery Health Assistant from Pixel 9a in Testing for Other Pixels
Google is finally bringing a feature many Pixel users have been hoping for—a battery health assistant! If you are a Pixel user or have ever been, then you must be aware of the battery life annoyance. Finally, Google is about to fix it, to some extent at least! The new Battery Health Assistant is aimed at improving your phone’s battery life over the long run. If you’ve ever noticed your phone holding less charge as it ages or taking longer to power up, this new feature will help with exactly that. Simply put, the Battery Health Assistant is a software-based feature that helps manage how your phone battery behaves as it gets older. We all know that batteries naturally degrade over time after hundreds of charging cycles. Google’s new tool works in the background to slow down that ageing process. Here’s how it works – after around 200 charge cycles, the system starts slightly reducing the maximum voltage that your battery charges to. This limit adjusts further at different stages to maintain performance and extend battery life. It’s a gentle way to protect your battery from wearing out too quickly.
How will it help you? By lowering the charge limit a bit, the feature can help prevent your battery from overheating or degrading too fast. This can be especially useful for people like me who keep their phones for several years.
The good part is that you will have control over it. On most Pixel models, you’ll be able to turn the feature on or off. You will be able to find it under the “Battery Health” section in settings, right below charging preferences. On the Pixel 9a, however, it’s turned on by default and can’t be disabled, AndroidCentral reported. Google recommends keeping it enabled for the best long-term performance.
The feature hasn’t officially rolled out just yet. But reports suggest it’s already been spotted in the Settings Services app of some Pixel phones, which hints that a wider release could happen with the Android 16 update this summer.
