Apple unveiled its iPhone 17 series with power-packed features in September 2025, and the devices are still making waves for their design, performance, and many other interesting things. However, even though just one month has passed, the excitement around the next year’s iPhone 18 series is already building and generating quite a buzz among tech enthusiasts.
Among the most talked-about upgrades in Apple’s next iPhone series is the substantial boost in memory. If Apple plans to bring the iPhone 18 series with an upgraded memory, then it will surely improve the performance and make Apple’s on-device intelligence even more seamless.
One of the key changes and most-talked-about upgrades in the iPhone 18 is a significant increase in its RAM. While the standard iPhone 17 has 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a spec shared with previous models, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have 12GB of RAM. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 18 series could be equipped with higher memory across all models.
If this happens, then it means even the entry-level iPhone 18 will also offer 12GB or more, making it deliver the capabilities of the Pro variants. This upgrade will allow the standard iPhone 18 to deliver smoother performance, better multitasking, faster app launches, and better performance.
Apple is working on integrating more advanced AI capabilities and features to its currently available iPhones in the market, and the upcoming iPhone 18 could also be an important part of this upgrade. The tech giant will make the performance faster and efficient with increased RAM and on-device artificial intelligence.
Several tasks like predictive typing, image processing, and intelligent suggestions will become more accurate and responsive. The move could also reduce dependence on cloud processing, enhancing privacy and speed.
Apple seems to be working with major memory manufacturers to achieve this memory boost and RAM modules. The company is reportedly in talks with Samsung to boost the production of LPDDR5X RAM that will power its upcoming generation of iPhones.
Apple is expected to deviate from its regular launch timeline this time for the iPhone 18 series, and hence, the Pro and foldable models could be unveiled in late 2026, in September, and the standard iPhone 18 and rumored iPhone 18e are expected to arrive in early 2027.
