Apple has a tradition of unveiling their iPhones every September, making it one of the highly-anticipated tech events of the year. Every launch every year brings something fresh to look at. Whether its improved cameras, or cutting-edge features, Apple always make sure to bring fresh innovation to the table. This year, the anticipation and spotlight is on the upcoming iPhone 17 series, expected to debut in September 2025. The lineup will include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a rumored new model, the iPhone 17 Air.
Going by Apple’s release pattern, the iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in September 2025, most likely during the second or third week. Over the years, the tech giant has stuck to this schedule with remarkable consistency.
Based on how things have played out in the past, I expect Apple to open pre-orders just a few days after the official launch event, possibly that same Friday. Talking about the actual in-store availability and iPhone 17 series first deliveries, they are likely to follow about a week later. This suggests to the fact that eager iPhone 17 series fans will unbox their new iPhones before the end of the month.
Under the hood, things are just as exciting as it always has been. Apple is likely to unveil the new A19 chipset in the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air. Cherry on a cup cake! The Pro models are expected to debut with the more powerful A19 Pro processor. If the tech giant follows its usual strategy, then we can expect major improved AI performance, better energy efficiency, and support for enhanced computational photography.
Another big change that we can expect is the potential jump to 12GB RAM in at least three of the models, which is up from the 8GB RAM seen in the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. If this upgrade happens, then it could see the significant improvement in multitasking and app performance.
Back in February, leaked CAD-based renders claimed about the real glimpse of the iPhone 17 series and what Apple might have planned for the September 2025. While, there’s no official confirmation to these claims, but they do seem to align with the earlier reports, especially around the new horizontal camera layout.
What stands out is the possible redesigning of the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro models. We could expect wider and more streamlined horizontal camera bump, which is shift from the diagonal are vertical arrangements we have seen in the recent years.
From what I have observed from reports, it seems iPhone 17 might be sticking with the faminiar dual camera bump, while the rumored iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a stretched out bump housing a single rear camera. This design change suggests that it may lean toward a lightweight and possibly more affordable variant.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to feature a horizontal triple-lens setup with more space between the individual cameras, LiDAR sensor, and flash, which may not just be aesthetic, but it could also improve thermal management or optical alignment.
