Samsung has not even launched the Galaxy S26 lineup, but rumors about the Galaxy S27 Ultra are already shaking up the entire tech industry. As per recent leaks, the tech giant might be working on a new and groundbreaking face-unlock system for its Galaxy S27 Ultra. This new system might not just elevate the security system in the smartphone, but also redefine the facial recognition on Android devices.
Reportedly, Samsung is working on a new facial recognition system called the Polar ID v1.0 for its upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra. This new technology will promise faster and more secure authentication in Galaxy devices. It will also put the tech giant ahead of its competitors like Apple’s biometric security.
There are several reports coming to the forefront about Samsung’s Polar ID v1.0 facial security system, stating that the company might be moving ahead beyond the conventional front-facing cameras for facial recognition.
The Polar ID is said to be relying on the dedicated hardware that emits near-infrared polarized light. This light will read the unique polarization pattern of a user’s face. The report further states that initially this Polar ID will function like a light-based fingerprint sensor, and hence, will prevent spoofing via photos, videos, masks, or even 3D-printed faces.
In addition, the Polar ID system is said to include an ISOCELL Vizion sensor and a BIO-Fusion Core security module. Both the things are used to target an unlock time of approximately 180 milliseconds. Other than this, if Polar ID is integrated in Galaxy S27 Ultra, then this next-gen smartphone will perform better and reliable across various lightning conditions, including darkness, bright sunlight, and users wearing sunglasses or masks.
The Face ID by Apple uses infrared dots that are projected over the face to generate a secure 3D map, and is therefore very dependable as a means of authentication and payments. Most of the Android devices, on the contrary, are based on camera-based face unlocks which are quicker but not as safe. Provided Samsung deftly executes Polar ID, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may have one of the quickest, the most secure, and powerful face recognition systems in the Android world.
