Apple’s next iPhones are less than 2-3 months away from release. The Apple iPhone 16 lineup could be unveiled in September or October this year. Ahead of its launch, a new leak has revealed significant information about the lineup. Not just Pros, but all four iPhones, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be powered by the A18 chipset. This is nothing but good news for those considering buying base iPhones. Also Read: Apple iPad Pro Launched In India With New M5 Chip, Ultra Retina XDR Display: Price, Specs
According to a report by MacRumors, Twitter user Nicolas Alvarez was able to discover codes for the next iPhones. The codes start with the same number, revealing that all the iPhones will feature the same chipset, i.e. A18. This means that base iPhone buyers may no longer feel devalued. Last year, Apple released the A17 Pro chipset, which was exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus users had a year older A16 Bionic chipset, the one from the iPhone 14 Pros. This year, there may not be such discrimination, and the reason for that could be the on-device AI features. Apple announced Apple Intelligence last month, which is exclusive to iPhone 15 Pros. While more RAM is one of the reasons, the chipset is a concerning factor. Not to forget, it also limited base iPhones from running AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil.
That said, Apple may offer the same A18 chipset to all iPhones and more RAM on the base models, i.e. 8GB, up from 6GB. This will not only make base iPhone buyers pleased, but will also let Apple sell more of its base iPhones and somehow convince iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users to switch to the new devices. While Apple is said to employ the A18 chip for all models, the company may still differentiate with the “Pro” branding for the Pro models. The exact naming of the chipset remains to be seen.
Other than the chipset, this year, the design of the base iPhone models will also change a bit. The dual camera placement will be placed vertically as it did before. The iPhone 16 Pro is said to have a larger display, i.e. a 6.3-inch OLED screen over 6.1-inch on the iPhone 15 Pro. The Pro Max may get a 6.9-inch OLED panel over a 6.7-inch screen on the 15 Pro Max.
There will also be a camera upgrade on the Pro models. This year, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are tipped to get a 48MP ultra-wide lens, saying goodbye to a 12MP sensor. As for the battery, all iPhones are expected to get slight battery upgrades.
