Income Tax Refund Status: Now that the last date to file Income Tax Return for the financial year 2023 – 2024 has ended, it is time to focus on the Income Tax refund. Refund processing by the Income Tax department usually takes four to five weeks, after which the extra amount or the extra tax paid by a taxpayer is credited to the account of the taxpayer. However, if a taxpayer does not get the refund in this window, they should check for intimation regarding discrepancies in ITR.

So, if you haven’t received your Income Tax refund, here’s how you can check your ITR refund status. But before that, here is a list of requisites you need to check your ITR refund status.

— A valid user ID and password

— PAN is linked with Aadhaar number

— ITR filed claiming refund

How to check your ITR refund status

Step 1: Go to the e-filing portal homepage. Alternatively, you can use this link: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.

Step 2: Enter your user ID and password.

Step 3: Now go to e-File tab.

Step 4: Then go to View Filed Returns option, which will appear under the Income Tax Returns section.

Step 5: Now click on View Details option. Here you can also check the life cycle of filed ITR.

It is worth noting that taxpayers whose PAN is not linked with Aadhaar will see a pop-up message that says that their PAN is made inoperative as it is not linked with their Aadhaar. They will also be asked to link their PAN with Aadhaar at the earlier to proceed.
