Samsung phone users are getting a new PUBG update.

Story Highlights

  • PUBG: Battlegrounds is receiving a new update.
  • It brings the 120FPS mode on Samsung phones.
  • Only the recently launched high-end phones are eligible.

Most modern smartphones in the premium category have insanely powerful graphic processors and adequately smooth displays. Still, it is a shame mobile game developers have not utilised these resources to offer a better gaming experience. PUBG maker Tencent is one of them. However, it is finally making a change — currently for Samsung phone users. PUBG (Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds) has released a major update that will improve the gaming experience for some Samsung phone users.

The new PUBG: Battlegrounds update has added support for the 120FPS mode on high-end Samsung Galaxy phones, finally putting their GPUs and 120Hz displays to use. The eligible phones are the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S23, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. PUBG started receiving the new update on May 13, meaning it should be available to most eligible users.

How will it improve the PUBG experience?

Tencent’s PUBG is a resource-intensive mobile video game, so the new 120FPS mode will enhance the experience by maintaining temperatures when the game utilises the GPU’s full capabilities. Since the Galaxy S24 series packs larger vapour-cooling chambers, the game’s new optimisation will significantly reduce the phone’s temperature. The new optimisations will be a part of the Game Optimisation Service (GOS)’s latest version and the Game Booster app, preloaded on the aforementioned Galaxy smartphones.

Will the changes come to BGMI?

Since PUBG: Battlegrounds is unavailable in India, the common question would be whether the Indian version, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) will receive these optimisations. While both games are mostly identical, their publishers are different. PUBG: Battlegrounds is distributed by Tencent Games, while Krafton is responsible for publishing BGMI. The latter has not made a similar announcement for BGMI, meaning users of select Samsung phones may have to wait longer to enjoy the 120FPS mode for an even smoother experience.
