Two BBK smartphone firms, OnePlus and Oppo, have partnered with Google to bring Gemini AI features on their phones. With this partnership, phones from these brands will have Gemini integration, enabling a slew of cool AI features. These features include news and audio summary, AI toolbox, and others.
At the Google Cloud Next 2024 event, Nicole Zhang, AI Product General Manager at Oppo and OnePlus, confirmed the partnership with Google. Select smartphones from these brands will get Google’s Gemini model features in the global markets. Interestingly, some of the Oppo and OnePlus phones like the Find X7 and OnePlus 12 already received Generative AI features in China.
That said, it’s now the turn for the global audience. But what AI features should you expect? Features like news and audio summary, AI toolbox, Circle to Search, and others will reach phones from the two BBK firms.
Unfortunately, the eligibility list of the phones supporting Gemini AI features hasn’t been revealed. However, expect the higher-end phones to be eligible for these features. Also, upcoming smartphones may come with the aforesaid AI features out of the box.
It is worth noting that other smartphone brands also offer AI features on their phones. For the same, they have partnered with none other than Google. As of now, Samsung phones like the Galaxy S24 come with built-in AI features. These features are now being rolled to some older higher-end models like the Galaxy S23 via an update.
Apart from this, Motorola recently launched a phone with some AI features for the camera. Google’s Pixel 8 phones have built-in AI tools powered by Gemini Nano.
In other news, OnePlus recently confirmed that it’s giving AI eraser feature to some of its devices such as the OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Open, and OnePlus Nord CE 4.
More about AI, Google recently revealed that it’s offering some of the cool Google Photos’ AI features to everyone for free. These features include AI Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, and others. So far, these features have been locked behind a paywall. Only, Google One members were able to access AI-editing tools in the Photos app. However, from May 15 these features will require no extra cost.
