Apple is stepping up its game in the AI world. As per a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant is expected to launch its artificial intelligence-powered web search tool in 2026. If this comes true, OpenAI and Perplexity will get some serious competition as both of these AI models come with web search tools. The report hints that Apple is working on a new system, which is known as World Knowledge Answers, and it is expected to be integrated into the Siri voice assistant. Not only that, Apple is expected to include its own AI-powered web search tool in its Safari web browser and Spotlight, which is a built-in feature for Mac, iPhone, and iPad to quickly find files. It may work similarly to ChatGPT or the latest AI overviews in Google Search to get a summary of the desired information via Siri, the report explained. It may depend on the large language models or LLMs. Also Read: OpenAI Confirms Adult-Only ChatGPT With Custom Personalities And Erotic Conversations
The interesting part is that Apple might not be building everything on its own. Gurman notes that the underlying tech enabling this new Siri could partially come from Google. Apple recently reached an agreement with the search giant to test a Google-developed AI model that could power Siri. Apple, however, still wants to keep parts of the search system in-house to preserve user privacy.
The new search experience is expected to go beyond text. Apple is reportedly working on an interface that uses text, photos, video, and even local points of interest. Along with this, a summarisation system would allow Siri to quickly break down information into digestible answers.
Currently, Siri can handle basic queries about people, events, or sports, but it usually defers to Google or even ChatGPT for more general knowledge. Apple wants to fix that gap and finally bring Siri up to speed with modern AI rivals.
As per the report, Apple is expected to bring this AI-powered web search tool in the spring of 2026, according to some people familiar with the update told Bloomberg. The sources termed it as an “answer engine.”
